SURI ALPACA/SILK LIGHT
Our “Suri Alpaca/Silk Light” consists of 74% baby suri alpaca and 26% mulberry silk and has a yardage of 300 meters/50g.
There are two types of alpaca; suri and huacaya. The Suri alpaca is more rare and makes up approx. 5% of the alpaca population. The hair from the suri alpaca is longer and shinier.
Alpaca wool is described as: soft like cashmere, warmer than sheep’s wool and with the shine of silk.
Baby suri alpaca refers to wool from the very first shearing of the alpaca, which is the absolute finest and softest. Mulberry silk is the term for the “cultivated” silkworm which feeds on leaves from the mulberry tree, the silk comes from the silkworm’s pupa. This combination of baby suri alpaca and mulberry silk makes a yarn that is unsurpassedly soft, shiny and luxurious – a pleasure to knit with.
“Suri Alpaca/Silke Light” is the softest fluffy yarn, and can be knitted alone for soft airy knitting projects or used in combination with another strand of yarn. It can also replace mohair. We recommend knitting needles 3 – 5 mm. Read more about how we recommend that you knit with hand-dyed yarn, click here.
OBS. Please note that the yarn is hand dyed and dyed in small batches, the colors may vary.
