SURI ALPACA/SILK LIGHT
Our “Suri Alpaca/Silk Light” consists of 74% baby Suri alpaca and 26% mulberry silk, with a yardage of 300 meters per 50g.
There are two types of alpacas: Suri and Huacaya. Suri alpacas are rarer, making up only about 5% of the alpaca population. The fiber from Suri alpacas is longer and more lustrous.
Alpaca wool is often described as being as soft as cashmere, warmer than sheep’s wool, and with the sheen of silk. Baby Suri alpaca refers to the wool from the alpaca’s very first shearing, which is the finest and softest.
Mulberry silk comes from cultivated silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves, and the silk is derived from the cocoon of the silkworm.
This combination of baby Suri alpaca and mulberry silk creates a yarn that is exceptionally soft, glossy, and luxurious—a true joy to knit with.
“Suri Alpaca/Silk Light” is the softest, fluffiest yarn. It can be knitted on its own for airy, delicate projects or used as a companion thread. It’s also a great alternative to mohair when used as a companion thread.
We recommend knitting needles 3 – 5 mm (20 stitches/10 cm on needles 4 mm)
