Bourette Silk

Bourette silk, also known as raw silk, is made from the shorter silk fibers left over during the production of smooth silk, such as mulberry silk. This gives Bourette silk a matte and irregular texture, resulting in a rustic and crisp appearance that still feels soft and pleasant against the skin. Bourette silk tends to feel slightly warmer and more breathable than smooth silk. You can read more about silk yarns and their sustainability here.

This silk takes the dye beautifully. As the yarn contains both short and slightly longer fibers as well as small cocoon remnants, the color becomes slightly uneven/mottled, which really contributes beautifully to the hand-dyed look.

The yarn is perfect for summer knits, scarves, shawls, and much more. It is also well-suited for children’s and baby garments, and is completely itch-free.

We recommend knitting needles 3.5 – 4.5 mm.
